Cleaner Energy for our Environment

Producing clean, renewable energy should be a priority for all Nebraskans. By investing in renewable resources, we can reduce our dependence on foreign oil, reduce the pollutants we put into our air and water, and create good, high-paying jobs.

LB 455: Encouraging Renewable Energy Development in Nebraska

Because Nebraska’s public power providers do not pay income taxes, they are ineligible for federal renewable energy production incentives. LB 455 seeks to level the playing field between our public power producers and privately-owned energy companies. An investment in renewable energy will bring a cleaner environment, a sustainable industry, and good, high-paying jobs to our state.

LB 421: Promoting Energy Security and a Cleaner Environment

LB 421 would provide a tax exemption for compressed natural gas (CNG) until the year 2015. Currently, CNG is subject to a tax of $0.26 per gasoline gallon equivalent (GGE). The five year window provided by this bill will help CNG establish itself as a mainstream fuel to power cars and trucks in Nebraska.
