Biography of Nebraska State Senator Jeremy Nordquist

Jeremy Nordquist was elected to represent District 7 in the Nebraska Legislature on November 4th, 2008. He was sworn in on January 7th, 2009 and is the youngest Senator of the 101st Unicameral Legislature. Senator Nordquist is the Vice-Chairman of the Nebraska Retirement Systems Committee and is also member of the Appropriations Committee, State-Tribal Relations Committee, and Building and Maintenance Committee. Senator Nordquist was also appointed to serve as a Vice-Chairman of the Health Committee for the National Conference of State Legislatures.

Prior to his election, Jeremy served as a Legislative Aide and Research Analyst for his predecessor, State Senator John Synowiecki. As Senator Synowiecki's Legislative Aide, Jeremy worked to meet the needs of Omaha's neighborhoods, businesses and non-profit organizations. As the Research Analyst for the Nebraska Retirement Systems Committee, Jeremy collaborated with committee members of both political parties and interested groups to ensure the financial sustainability of public pensions for teachers, judges, state patrol officers, and other state employees. Jeremy currently works for Building Bright Futures, a community initiative that seeks to improve overall academic performance and reduce the academic achievement gap.

Jeremy and his wife Shannon live in Omaha's Little Italy neighborhood. They are members of St. Frances Cabrini Parish. Jeremy serves on the Board of Directors for One World Community Health Center in South Omaha and is active in Downtown Omaha INC, Knights of Columbus Council 3019, Dahlman Neighborhood Association, Old Market South Neighborhood Association, and South Omaha Neighborhood Alliance.

Jeremy Nordquist grew up in rural South Dakota and is the youngest of six boys. While in high school, Jeremy owned and operated a small automotive transmission repair business to earn money for college. He graduated with honors from Creighton University and is completing a master's degree in public administration, with a concentration in health care, at the University of Nebraska at Omaha.
